Circling Raven Golf ClubCoeur d'Alene Tribe

Golf Course Overview

Located adjacent to the Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort Hotel, the Circling Raven Golf Club offers guests an experience that can't be measured on a scorecard. The 18-hole golf course provides professionally designed course play, a 6,500 sq. ft. clubhouse and a 25-acre practice facility. Set in one of America's premier mountain retreats, the Circling Raven Golf Club was counted among Golf Magazine's Top Ten New Courses You Can Play for 2003.

Opened to the public in August of 2003, Circling Raven quickly won praise from the golf community. “Nothing short of a meteor shower was going to keep me off the pristine fairways of northern Idaho's newest jewel,” said Steve Smede, Editor of Mountain West Golf Magazine. “Every hole has its story. Every bend, swale, bunker and box has a tale to tell – much of it dating to the inception of the course itself.” The course was conceived by famed golf course architect Gene Bates and was designed to blend with the natural surroundings.

The goal was to ensure the health of those vast wetlands, their inhabitants, and the native palouse grasses that offer brilliant scenery, yet exciting challenges to golfers. “We wanted the golf experience to be in concert with a natural experience,” said Coeur D'Alene Casino Resort Chief Executive Officer Dave Matheson, a Coeur d'Alene tribal member. “We feel strongly about such things in Indian Country and we've been careful to find talented people who can achieve those goals. This is our homeland. We don't forget that it's also the homeland of many species of fish and wildlife, including our migrating and resident birds.”

The course, set amid 400 acres of lush, forested meadows and these carefully preserved wetlands, has a par of 72. The fairways, tees and roughs consist of bluegrass, grown in Idaho, while the greens feature L93 bentgrass. The course measures 7,189 yards from the gold tees with a USGA slope of 140 and a USGA rating of 74.4. Five sets of tees are also available to accommodate all skill levels, measuring 4,708 yards from the front tees with a slope of 122 and a rating of 66.6.

The 25-acre practice facility is separated into areas for wedges, sand play and use of the full bag so golfers can adequately prepare for all of the obstacles on the course itself. The clubhouse features two locker rooms, both with showers and private lockers, as well as dining areas and a full-service bar. With every golf cart affixed with GPS, the Circling Raven Golf Club has amenities to delight every guest.
